Friendship Quilt

A friendship quilt is made with one block from each participant at the retreat. Please make the quilt block using fabric that coordinates with the retreat theme. We will write our own names on our block and I will sew the blocks together to make the quilt top. On the last day of the retreat we will raffle the quilt.

Instructions to make one               block for the friendship quilt

Dear One by Laundry Basket Quilts

“Friendship quilt”

As part of the retreat, we will be making a friendship quilt. Each of us will make one block and will sign our names in the center. You can use the permanent markers I have, or you can embroider your name to your block if you would like.

I have included the free pattern from Laundry Basket Quilts. You will need less than a 10” square of 2 fabrics and one background to make one block. Use Lori Holt fabric or any 30's print fabric to match our theme!  I will have extra fabric scraps for you to use if you need them. I encourage you to get it done prior to the retreat, but there will be time to do it there if needed. I will sew the top together during the retreat and we will have a drawing for the quilt top the last day of the retreat.

Instructions for making one quilt block:

Please use Lori Holt fabric or any 30's print fabric.

Fabric A (a light fabric for the center and a medium or dark for the outer fabric of the block)

Light fabric:

  • Cut one 2”X5” strip and two 2”X2” squares

Medium or dark fabric:

  • Cut two 2”X5” strips, cut six 2”X 3 ½” strips and two 2”X2” squares

Fabric B (any neutral tone fabric)

  • Cut four 4” squares, then cut them on the diagonal twice to get a total of 16 triangles.
  • These triangles will be much bigger than needed. Don’t trim them down. I will square up the blocks before piecing the top.
  • For the smaller 4 ends of the block, center the tip of the triangle with the center of the fabric it is being sewn to. Most of it will get trimmed off.

Lay the block out and sew together in rows.
